Biography
In high school, Jim graduated valedictorian of his class and was accepted to Princeton University. Jim graduated summa cum laude from Princeton with a degree in engineering physics and a minor in mathematics. In addition, Jim was inducted into the academic honors society phi beta kappa at graduation. His graduate work was done at Stanford University, also in engineering physics. Prior to becoming a full time tutor, Jim worked as a physicist doing research for a Silicon Valley laboratory, and was subsequently recruited by Wall Street firm Goldman Sachs to work as a mathematician developing new trading products for their commodity trading division. After several years, however, Jim realized that he wanted to return to his true passion, teaching mathematics, physics and chemistry to high school and college students. To his students, Jim stresses the importance of understanding the underlying concepts of the subject matter, not just the mechanics behind doing the problems. Jim has been tutoring for over 17 years, and has had over 200 students over that time. He has tutored students at all learning levels, from those with learning disabilities to students graduating as valedictorian of their class. He has numerous recommendations from prior clients, which he is happy to share with you before beginning new tutoring sessions. During his free time, Jim enjoys swimming, hiking and reading scientific literature. He is easily reachable to discuss the progress of tutoring sessions, and is looking forward to assisting his students succeed in their academic career.
