Accomplished math teacher and tutor making complicated mathematics understandable and enjoyable
A quote from a student: “You are the most passionate teacher and your love of math and positivity is infectious.”
Becky believes math should be interesting and fun!
Words cannot express how much Becky Lazzeri loves teaching and tutoring, and how much she enjoys her subject matter and working with motivated students. She has 34 years teaching and tutoring experience in the area of honors mathematics; many of those years she taught AP Calculus AB and/or BC. Becky has also led many test prep workshops on how to best prepare for standardized tests and AP Calculus exams.
Becky fell in love with mathematics during her junior year in high school and never looked back. She soon started tutoring her peers until graduation from college, when she began tutoring high school and college students. Her grandfather and her father were math majors, so she always had someone to answer her math questions. Becky did not realize what a luxury that was! She strives to give this gift to the people she tutors: the gift of understanding, the gift of being able to move forward, the gift of success in math classes.
Becky has been teaching in New York City for the past six years. Before that, she taught in Mississippi for 21 years, where she also led successful ACT prep workshops. She taught in Memphis, Tennessee for ten years, and led SAT prep summer workshops there as well. She was privileged to coach a successful Math Team that competed at the top of local competitions and often placed in national competitions. They traveled to the Princeton University Mathematics Competition (PUMaC), the Duke Math Meet (DMM), the Harvard-MIT Math Tournament (HMMT), and the American Regions Mathematics League (ARML). Becky has taught and tutored a multitude of students who have gone on to successful college careers at Ivy League and other prestigious universities.
Becky describes mathematics as an endurance sport, and she should know: she’s a veteran of 39 marathons. When other students give up and say math is too hard, successful students persevere and do what it takes to succeed. She helps students take one algebraic step after another as they gain confidence in pursuit of their goals.
